How it works

Measure, review, apply, undo.

The same four steps for a single tweak or a whole pack. Nothing is written until you've seen it.

  1. Placeholder for a crop of the Dashboard screenshot: Live CPU, GPU, memory and ping readings on the Dashboard

    Step 1: Analyze

Live CPU, GPU, memory and ping readings, and evidence-based checks that point at what is actually holding this PC back.

  2. Placeholder for a crop of the Review screenshot: The review screen with checkboxes and before and after values

    Step 2: Review

See the exact current and new value of every change before anything is written. Untick anything you don't want.

  3. Placeholder for a crop of the Tweaks screenshot: A tweak's details panel with its labels and the Apply button

    Step 3: Apply & verify

Nexus records the original, writes the change, then reads it back to confirm it actually took effect.

  4. Placeholder for a crop of the Restore Center screenshot: Restore Center with restore points and change history

    Step 4: Undo anytime

One click in Restore Center puts back the recorded original value, for one change, a group or the last change.

Optimize packs

The best tweaks for each goal, in one click.

Every pack opens a review screen first, where each item can be unticked. Then every change can be undone from Restore Center.

Optimize everything

61 hand-picked tweaks across 6 packs, in one reviewed pass. Only what applies to this PC is offered, and you can untick anything in the review.

See every pack
  • Gaming performance

    18 hand-picked tweaks

Game Mode on, background game capture off, snappier menus and effects, raw mouse input and less background work.

  • Network & latency

    3 hand-picked tweaks

Keeps the network adapter awake, stops sharing Windows updates with other PCs and restores normal TCP auto-tuning.

  • Privacy

    17 hand-picked tweaks

Advertising ID, tailored experiences, activity history, extra diagnostics and app telemetry turned off.

  • Security hardening

    4 hand-picked tweaks

AutoRun off, the old SMBv1 server off, Remote Assistance off and file extensions always visible.

  • Debloat

    13 hand-picked tweaks

Suggestions and ads in Start, Settings and the lock screen, promoted apps, web results in search, Copilot, Recall and Widgets turned off.

  • Reliability & storage

    6 hand-picked tweaks

Full shutdowns, no maintenance wake-ups, TRIM on, USB devices kept awake and End task in the taskbar.

Packs never include services, Caution or Experimental tweaks, or anything without real evidence.

Honest labels

Every tweak tells you what it's for, and how sure we are.

Six labels on all 402 tweaks, taken straight from the app. Here is a real one.

  • Risk

Safe, Caution or Experimental. Safe means low risk and fully reversible. Caution means real trade-offs, and Experimental can make things worse on some PCs.

  • Purpose

Performance, Privacy, Debloat, Preference, Security, Reliability or Storage. A privacy or cosmetic tweak is never sold as an FPS gain.

  • Recommended

A hand-picked flag. Only Safe tweaks with Strong or Moderate evidence can carry it, and only these go into Optimize packs.

Turn off Game Bar background recording

Stops Xbox Game Bar from continuously recording the last minutes of gameplay.

SafePerformanceRecommended

Expected impact

Noticeable

Evidence

Strong

Why it helps

Background recording keeps a video encoder running while you play; Windows' own settings page warns that it can affect game performance. Turning it off removes that work.

Trade-offs

You can no longer save a clip of what just happened (Win+Alt+G). Manual recording still works.

What changes

Sets HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameDVR\HistoricalCaptureEnabled = 0 (Settings > Gaming > Captures > 'Record what happened').
  • Expected impact

1 to 3: how much it can matter when this is actually the bottleneck on your PC. Not a promise of a gain.

  • Evidence

Strong: documented by Microsoft or consistently measurable. Moderate: helps in specific situations. Limited: popular, rarely measurable.

  • What changes

The exact setting, value or command. The review screen shows its current value next to the new one before anything is written.

Safety

What Nexus does, and what it never does.

Optimizers earn a bad name by breaking things quietly. Nexus does the opposite: it shows its work, and it leaves security alone.

What Nexus does

  • Preview. Every change shows its exact current and new value first.

  • Snapshot. The original state is recorded before anything is written.

  • Verify. Each change is read back after writing to confirm it took effect.

  • Undo. Restore Center puts back one change, a group or the last change.

  • Restore points. Create and verify Windows System Restore points before big changes.

  • Dry-run mode. See what would change without changing anything.

  • Standard user. Runs without admin rights. One UAC prompt only for changes that need it.

What Nexus refuses to do

  • Disable Defender, the Firewall or SmartScreen. They are security features. Any gain is a few percent at most, and the risk is your whole PC.

  • Disable Windows Update. It leaves you unpatched and breaks Store and driver updates.

  • Turn off VBS or HVCI. Core isolation protects the kernel. Nexus explains it in the BIOS Guide but never switches it off.

  • Edit boot configuration (bcdedit timer tweaks). Boot changes can trigger BitLocker recovery and break timing on modern CPUs, with no reliable gain.

  • Edit the hosts file. Defender flags it as tampering, and it breaks Microsoft services unpredictably.

  • Install drivers. Kernel-mode drivers are a stability and security risk. Nexus never installs one.

  • Run “RAM cleaners”. Windows already manages memory. Purging caches causes stutter, not FPS.

  • Apply undocumented registry “FPS packs”. Undocumented values with no evidence are often ignored by Windows, or harmful.

  • Add itself to startup or send telemetry. Nexus runs only when you open it. Its one check-in is your account sign-in; no usage data is uploaded.

How every change is made, verified and undone: read the safety model.

Tools

Measure first. Then fix what's actually wrong.

Tweaks are half of it. The other half is knowing whether your problem is Windows, your network, your mouse or a stale driver.

Built right

Small, native and tested on every build.

  • Native C++ and Direct3D 11

No runtime to install. The installer is 3.27 MB; the portable ZIP is 1.35 MB.

  • Runs as a standard user

One Windows (UAC) approval per change that needs admin rights. Nothing else runs elevated.

  • 358 tweaks auto-tested

Every build applies, verifies and restores 358 tweaks exactly, across 106 unit tests and 10 read-only system tests.

  • Sharp on 4K

Scales per monitor from both Windows display scaling and the monitor's resolution. Text and icons are rendered at that size.

  • No license keys

Sign in with your account's email and password; Nexus checks it each time it starts. Otherwise the network is used only for tests, latency probes and installs you choose.

FAQ

Straight answers.

More in the full FAQ.

Will this increase my FPS?

It can, when Windows is what's holding your game back, but nobody can honestly promise a number. Nexus removes common bottlenecks: background game recording, power settings that cap the CPU, mouse acceleration, network adapter power saving and similar. Results depend on your hardware, drivers, games and what was already set.

Measure before and after with the built-in Benchmark. Nexus doesn't capture in-game FPS itself, so you can enter the numbers from your game's own benchmark to compare.

Is it safe? Can I undo everything?

Every change is previewed with its exact current and new value. The original is recorded before anything is written, and the result is verified afterwards. Restore Center can undo one change, a group, or the last change, and it manages Windows System Restore points.

A few actions are one-way by nature: uninstalling OneDrive, removing Store apps, deleting temporary files and running repairs. They are labelled, ask for an extra confirmation, and every removed Store app keeps a reinstall link. Read how changes are made.

Does it disable Windows Defender or Windows Update?

No. Nexus never disables Defender, the Firewall, Windows Update, SmartScreen or VBS/HVCI. It never edits boot configuration or the hosts file, and never installs drivers. The full list, with reasons, is on the Safety page.

Does it run in the background or at startup?

No. There is no background service and no startup entry. Nexus does nothing until you open it.

Does it collect data?

The app sends no telemetry. Settings, history and logs stay on your PC in %LOCALAPPDATA%\NexusOptimizer. When it starts, it checks your Nexus account: it sends your sign-in token, a one-way ID for this PC, the PC's name and the app version, and nothing about your files, settings or games. Otherwise it uses the network only for live latency probes (which you can change or turn off), tests you start, app installs you start and links you click.

This website uses cookieless analytics with no personal data. Payments happen on Stripe's own checkout page. See the privacy policy.

Does it work with anti-cheat games?

Nexus doesn't inject into games or read their memory. Tweaks are Windows settings. The crosshair is a separate, click-through overlay window drawn on top of the game, and some games or tournaments don't allow overlays like that, so check your game's rules before using it.
